West Mainland - Full Day Tour
- Scapa Flow-the final resting place of the German High Fleet in 1919, this magnificent natural anchorage was used by the Vikings and later sheltered the British Fleet in two World Wars.
- Maeshowe - the finest chambered tomb in Western Europe, built before 2,700 BC. Raided by Vikings in the 12th century who left the largest collection of runic inscriptions found anywhere in
one place.
- Ring of Brodgar- marvel at the mystery of this magnificent Neolithic stone circle originally comprising of 60 stones, of which 36 still remain.
- Standing Stones of Stenness - a stone circle dating from the third millennium BC consisting originally of 12 stones.
- Lunch stop at a local restaurant or cafe
- Skara Brae - the best Neolithic village in Europe. Stone Age village of ten one-roomed houses dating from 3,000 BC, in remarkable state of preservation.
- Skaill House - early 17th century mansion, home to the dinner service from Captain Cook's ship, Discovery
- Kirbuster Farm Museum - Step back in time in this 16th century farmhouse with traditional
central hearth and stone beds.
- Traditional Orkney Craft- Orkney is home to a wide variety of craftspeople and artists who
have been inspired by the natural environment and have used timeless imagery with
contemporary flair.
- Earl's Palace - home of the Earls of Orkney in the later 16th century
- Brough of Birsay (tidal island) - site of early Christian & Norse settlement, home to important Pictish leader in 7th century who left the magnificent three warriors symbol stone (replica on site).
- Broch of Gurness - an impressive Iron Age fortress surrounded by a village settlement.
